Common questions
How long does it take to train for a 5K?
Training for a 5K takes about 11 to 18 weeks from not exercising at all, and 9 to 12 weeks if you already walk regularly. Age, weight and fitness move it, and the plan above shows yours.
Can I walk during a 5K?
Yes, walking during a 5K is normal and allowed. Walk-run is how this plan builds up, and many people finish their first 5K that way.
How many days a week should a beginner run?
Three days a week of walk-run is enough for a beginner, with a rest or walking day between. A short strength session adds the most after that.
What pace should I run at?
Run your first 5K training at a pace you could talk at. If you cannot say a full sentence, slow down or walk until you can.
