The three questions doctors actually screen with. One minute, honest scoring, and nothing you answer leaves this device.

2. How many drinks do you have on a typical day when drinking?

3. How often do you have six or more drinks on one occasion?

Common questions

How much alcohol is safe to drink?

The honest answer from recent research: no amount is actively good for health, and the old idea that a daily glass of red wine protects the heart has not survived better studies. Risk rises with amount. Guidelines in many countries now sit around no more than 10 to 14 standard drinks a week, with several drink-free days, and less is always better for sleep, blood pressure, weight and cancer risk.

What counts as one drink?

A standard drink is roughly a small 12 oz beer at 5%, a 5 oz glass of wine, or a 1.5 oz shot of spirits. Large wine glasses, strong craft beers and generous home pours often hold two standard drinks or more, which is the most common reason people underestimate their weekly total.

What does my AUDIT-C score mean?

AUDIT-C is scored 0 to 12. In most clinics, 3 or more for women and 4 or more for men flags drinking that deserves a closer look; higher scores mean the pattern is more likely to be affecting health. A high score is not a diagnosis of anything. It is the same quiet signal your doctor would use to open a conversation.

I want to cut down. What actually works?

Concrete, boring tactics beat resolutions: set drink-free days in a row rather than scattered, do not keep alcohol at home for the first weeks, order the smaller size first, and put three alcohol-free hours before bed, which repays you in sleep immediately. If cutting down keeps failing, medication and structured support exist and work; a doctor can start that conversation without judgment.

How much alcohol is considered too much?

Most guidance now clusters around no more than 14 units a week, spread out, with alcohol-free days, roughly seven drinks, and less is better. The pattern matters as much as the total: the same weekly amount taken as two heavy nights stresses the body far more than spread across a week.
