What is an average grip strength for my age?

One hand on a dynamometer, best of three. Men peak in their thirties at around 51 kg and women at around 31 kg. By seventy those medians are near 38 and 20, and by eighty near 31 and 15.

If you have seen a much bigger American figure, around 95 kg for a man in his thirties, that table added both hands together. Halving it before comparing is the single commonest fix needed on this question.

Every clinical weakness cutoff uses the single-hand convention: Europe flags under 27 kg in men and 16 in women, Asia 28 and 18, and the American figures 26 and 16. They were all derived in older adults, so a forty year old below them is weak for their age rather than meeting a definition written for them.

Not magic, just convenient

Useful when your plan calls for more protein than your meals reach, especially for older adults protecting muscle. Whey or a plant blend both work; unflavored mixes into anything.
