Does apple cider vinegar help digestion or weight loss?

The honest reading: small studies show a minor blunting of after-meal blood sugar and, at best, a kilogram or two of weight difference over months. Nothing resembling the transformation claims.

It does not detox anything, and straight vinegar erodes tooth enamel and can irritate the throat and stomach.

Diluted with water around meals it is safe for most people, so enjoy it if you like it. Just assign it the role of a condiment, not a treatment.

See a doctor promptly if

  • Blood in the stool, or black tarry stools
  • A persistent change in bowel habit lasting more than three weeks, especially over the age of 45
  • Unintentional weight loss, or a new lump or swelling in the abdomen
  • Constipation with vomiting and no passage of wind. This needs urgent assessment
